The Quartermen and The Bucks Free Press have been informed that Wycombe Wanderers have renewed interest in Colchester United forward Samson Tovide ahead of the expiration of his contract with the Essex-based club.
Wycombe are on the hunt for new strikers following the return of Cauley Woodrow and Nathan Lowe to Luton Town and Stoke City, respectively.
Wanderers have previously been interested in Tovide, having tried to sign the striker in the January window before pivoting to Lowe.
The 22-year-old is also ready to leave Colchester United at the end of his contract, with the striker available for a compensational fee this summer.
He would be willing to make the journey to rivals Wycombe as they look to strengthen the team for a promotion push.
While on the surface the striker’s goal tally may look unimpressive, with four goals and five assists in 42 League Two matches, he offers a lot more to any team outside of just his goals.
He ranks similarly to Woodrow in his capacity to bring others into play, rating in the top 4% for assists (0.20 assists per 90 and 0.14 expected assists per 90), top 4% for key passes (1.00 chances per 90 and 0.36 big chances per 90 created) and in the top 20% for dribbles.
If Wycombe stick with the 5-3-2 that Duff has succeeded with in the past and was trialled in the final few games of the season, Tovide could prove an inspired addition beside a typical poacher like Bradley Fink, who looks best when supplied and running off the shoulder of defenders into space.
At 22 too, he would likely continue to improve and grow with time and experience but would also provide the club with a player used to English football and ready to hit the ground running into the new season.
