Michael Duff reveals why Bradley Fink was missing for Wycombe Wanderers against Blackpool

Many Wycombe Wanderers supporters were left disappointed and confused by the decision to leave striker Bradley Fink out of the 18-man squad to face Blackpool on Saturday.

The Swiss forward has endured a difficult start to life in England, making just two league starts so far this season.

However, following an impactful cameo against Huddersfield Town where he set up Nathan Lowe’s 102nd-minute equaliser, there were calls for the 22-year-old to play a part when Blackpool came to town on Saturday.

Fink also featured on Tuesday evening as a young Chairboys side ousted Hungerford Town on penalties to win the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup, getting more minutes in his legs ahead of the weekend.

Despite this, fans were left disappointed when the squad to face the Seasiders was announced at 1:45 on Saturday afternoon, as the striker was nowhere to be seen, not even being named on the bench.

This came back to haunt Michael Duff, as Lowe was forced off with a nasty gash on his foot 15 minutes in, leaving Fred Onyedinma, a natural winger, as the lone striker.

Wanderers’s wide players put plenty of inviting crosses into the box that were begging to be headed home, but no one was there to get the final touch, as the lack of a target was felt.

This ended up costing the Chairboys the game, as Luke Leahy’s own goal in the 48th minute proved to be the decisive moment, even though Blackpool had to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men.

After the match, Duff was asked whether Fink’s absence from the squad was due to injury, or just a selection choice.

The Wycombe boss responded: “It was selection – he played on Tuesday night.

“We’ve got a big group – unfortunately players have to miss out each week.”

It’s unclear whether Lowe will be back for next week’s trip to Lincoln City, so we could see the Swiss striker named in the squad, should the Stoke City loanee be deemed unfit to travel to Sincil Bank,
