If anyone was ever destined to be a Premier League footballer, Freddie Potts would definitely be a name that comes to mind.

Joining West Ham United aged only six years old, he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2021 and made his senior debut against Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Europa Conference League of all places, albeit as an 87th minute substitute.

Potts was part of the squad in West Ham’s Europa Conference League final win against Fiorentina in which they won and were handed their first major trophy in 43 years.

Born into a footballing family, his father, Steve Potts was a defender for West Ham and made nearly 400 appearances in his 17 years with the club, and is now their head coach at the U-23 level. His brother, Dan Potts also played for West Ham, Colchester United, Portsmouth, Luton Town and most recently, Charlton Athletic but was released at the end of his contract and is currently a free agent.

One month after his success with West Ham in the Europa League, Freddie joined Wycombe Wanderers on a season-long loan. Matt Bloomfield praised the midfielder, saying “he plays with real energy and athleticism in the middle of the park and will really suit the way we want to play.”

Potts scored his first goal for the Chairboys in a 3-1 defeat to Charlton, also playing at Wembley in the 2024 EFL Trophy Final. At the end of his time with Wycombe, he was voted both the Supporters’ Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year.

Potts then went on to join Championship side Portsmouth on another season-long loan, making his debut in a 2-1 loss to Burnley. He also featured against Wycombe in the FA Cup.

He returned to West Ham at the end of the 24/25 season, making his Premier League debut this season as a substitute in a 5-1 loss to Chelsea, making his first start very recently in their 3-1 win over Newcastle United, where he was named man of the match.

It seems the future is bright for the midfielder, and the sky is the limit. Many Wanderers fans will be keeping tabs on his career.
