Wycombe Wanderers could turn to Ipswich Town’s Cameron Humphreys amid an injury crisis in the midfield.

Could Wycombe Wanderers call upon former Ipswich Town loanee amid midfield injury crisis?

There are two names on every Wycombe Wanderers fans’ shopping list this January, and both of those played a huge part in the club’s success last season. These particular players are Bolton Wanderers’ Aaron Morley, and Ipswich Town’s Cameron Humphreys.

We’ve already spoken in great detail about the former, but his name recently grabbed the attention of supporters once again after his omission from Bolton’s heavily rotated squad which faced Northampton Town on January 4th, which certainly bodes well for Wycombe’s chancing of landing the 25-year-old.

However, it’s now time to look at his fellow former Wanderers loanee, Humphreys. Having scored seven goals and assisting a further six in 44 League One outings last term, many expected him to return to Portman Road and break into the squad, but that hasn’t been the case.

In the first half of the season, Humphreys made just four appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side, and has been plying his trade in the under-21s as of late, which seems like a real waste of his talent that was so evident last term.

If he can’t break into the first team at Ipswich, it seems likely that they will pursue a short-term loan deal for the second half of the 2025/26 campaign, and what would be more poetic than a return to Adams Park, to help Michael Duff’s side push towards the play-offs.

We all know that Wycombe will be in the market for at least one midfielder this window, as injuries to Ewan Henderson, Magnus Westergaard, and George Abbott have left them thin on the ground, and Humphreys would be the perfect player to come in and hit the ground running.

We’ve already seen his quality on show last season, so it’s not like he will have to adapt to League One football. Whilst it may take a couple of matches to get him up to speed, a fully firing Humphreys would be a real asset to any side in the division.

Given all the circumstances, it seems like a no-brainer for Wanderers to pursue a deal to sign the midfielder for the rest of the season, and give Duff the chance to work with one of the best loanees we’ve seen at Adams Park in the last decade.
