Wycombe Wanderers have long-awaited Josh Scowen return on the horizon

The Chairboys have been without Josh Scowen since a poor challenge ended his 2024/2025 season at Leyton Orient back in April. Scans revealed anterior cruciate ligament damage which required surgery, keep him out of action for 6 months and counting.

This week, the club announced that Josh made his return to training on the grass. This, coupled with a member of The Quartermen speaking directly with Josh, means that it can be confirmed that he is targeting a return to first team action in January.

This will be music to ears of Michael Duff, the Wycombe manager. It’s been fairly obvious that both Mike Dodds and Michael Duff have missed a player in central midfield of Scowen’s ability and his leadership qualities. The Chairboys fans will also be delighted to welcome Josh back into the matchday squad.

Racking up over 200 Chairboys appearances, Scowen is seen as an integral player by many, including Dan Clark, Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Trust Director, who had this to say, “Josh is a leader – and while we have good strength and passion in the middle of the park, Josh’s ability to break up play and win balls will be essential as we build momentum this season.

He was so important last season – both when we went on a huge run, and when we had difficult games after February.

I’m excited to see how he links up more with Henderson, Lowry and Mullins, and will provide them with more time and space to be creative. He has been a huge miss and I’m delighted he’s back training on the grass.”

Wycombe fans see Josh’s return as a catalyst that can help the squad kick on in the second half of the season. As Dan mentioned, with Josh being that aggressive ball winner it will be interesting to see how this frees up the playmakers like Henderson, Lowry and Mullins to go and make things happen.

Josh’s return has the potential to feel like a new signing. Here at The Quartermen we feel he is everything that is needed to take this squad to the next level and up the table.
