Q&A with Wycombe Wanderers Women’s captain Bobby Lynch ahead of Adams Park FA Cup tie

It’s safe to say that things on the Women’s side of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club couldn’t better at the moment in terms of results, with an FA Cup Clash against Chesham United tomorrow at Adams Park, we caught up with captain of the Chairgirls, Bobby Lynch and asked her a couple of questions about herself and the team.

Winning 4-1 last week against Sholing and 10-1 against Wallingford and Crownmarsh, it seemed the best question to begin with was how the current unbeaten run is affecting team morale.

The mood in the camp is great at the moment, the start of the season couldn’t have gone any better for us so far. We’ve shown different sides to our games, winning by bigger margins and scraping last minute wins.

The next question was ‘What are matchdays like for the squad?’

Matchdays are the best time of the week for us- we start the day with ‘Coffee Club’, we find a cafe before every game, whether it’s home or away, and that’s become a tradition for us, we then head to the game with a positive mindset and are ready to face whatever challenge lies ahead.

What’s the hardest part of the operations that people don’t know about, and how do you and the team continue to stay motivated?

I guess work/life balance, for the girls as this is a secondary commitment to whatever their main income/education is, and finding the balance can be difficult and impact people’s availability, recovery, etc. That can be a real challenge, but the girls really try to prioritise football wherever possible, and normally, it works well for us as a squad. Everyone is understanding when it comes to other commitments and as long as people communicate- it’s workable!

What’s something you’ve learnt throughout your career that you wish you knew at the start of it?

That being a footballer was a career option, as a young girl. But to also take every opportunity that comes my way, and enjoy the journey- whatever happens.

Finally, what is the mood like going into your upcoming match at Adams Park this Sunday? How are you and the team preparing?

The build-up to the game is exciting, the squad are looking forward to the occasion and the challenge that Chesham will bring, being a league above. We have prepared this week as normal, focusing on how we play rather than the opposition, whilst acknowledging the threats they may bring.

Thanks to Bobby Lynch for getting back to us and being open to answering the questions. Wanderers are set to kick-off at 2pm tomorrow, get behind the team and hopefully the next round of the FA Cup awaits!
