Wanderers after Chuks Aneke

Is the former Addick’s striker the man to replace Richard Kone?

Wanderers after Chuks Aneke

Wycombe Wanderers are reported to be pursuing the signature of Chuks Aneke as reported by Neil Goulding at Sportsboom.

The ex Charlton Athletic striker was released in the summer after they gained promotion via the Play-offs. And Wycombe aren’t the only team after his services. The Chairboys face competition from fellow League One side Burton Albion whilst Scottish Premiership side St Mirren have also expressed an interest in the 32 year old striker.

Aneke believe’s he can still offer a lot at League One level and with the recent departure of Richard Kone, offers Mike Dodds an option ahead of the transfer deadline that shuts on Monday 1st September at 7pm.

Aneke came to prominence when he broke through at Arsenal before he gained spells at Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra, Zulte Waregem(Belgium) and MK Dons. In particular his spell in North Buckinghamshire helped to gain a move to Charlton, where he spent four years at the South London team and scored 27 times in 138 games. His best season came in 2020/21 where he scored 16 times. However Aneke was largely frustrating for the Addicks last season where he only scored once in 30 appearances.

Chairboy fans will be familiar with Aneke after he gained a red card in the league game defeat last season at Adams Park.
