Chairboys strike a double deal on Wednesday as Wycombe Wanderers make two new signings

It’s been a busy Wednesday for Wycombe Wanderers as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, making two new signings and bringing the total number of new arrivals to twelve.

The first signing, announced at 11am with the infamous yellow GIF, was highly-rated 19-year-old midfielder George Abbott, who joins from Tottenham Hotspur on a deal running until the end of the 2025/26 season.

George spent last season at Notts County, where he quickly became a fan favourite. In his first season of senior football, he notched up 5 goals and 6 assists, and also picked up the EFL Goal of the Season award for his stunning first-time volley against Accrington Stanley in January.

Mike Dodds commented on the midfielder stating, “George is a really exciting player in the middle of the park and we’re delighted that he’s made the decision to come here over other clubs to continue his progress in his career. He had an excellent loan spell last season and is a player we’ve known about for a long time in youth football, so to bring him here is another really positive step forward in our recruitment this summer.”

The move marks a shift away from the current approach that Mike Dodds seems to be aiming for, which is to keep loanees to a minimum. However, Abbott appears to offer enough quality that made him too good for Mike to ignore.

The Chairboys’ transfer business wasn’t done for the day. At 4pm, they announced a second signing: 23-year-old centre-back Connor Taylor from Bristol Rovers, joining for an undisclosed fee.

Another highly rated player, particularly among opposition fans, the towering 6’6″ defender was voted Bristol Rovers’ Player of the Season for 2024/25. He also won Young Player of the Season during their promotion-winning campaign to League One in 2021/22.

Connor Taylor featured against the Chairboys back in February, when Wycombe cruised to a 2–0 win in what was Mike Dodds’ first victory as Head Coach.

Mike Dodds also commented on Connor Taylor signing, “Connor is a brilliant capture for us and he’s someone with really good experience at this level, despite still being at a young age. He’ll bring extra steel into the team as well as his height, ability on the ball and strong defensive attributes so we’re delighted he’s agreed to join us and look forward to working with him.”
