Much like Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned for over 70 years, Matt Bloomfield, affectionately known as Mr. Wycombe, had seen a reign that breaks all current records at Wycombe Wanderers, spanning over 22 years. It’s hard to imagine this feat will ever be beaten. The club entered uncharted territory in January 2025 when Matt Bloomfield left the Chairboys to join Luton Town.
These are the four players who i think can make the grade as the Heir to the title ‘Mr. Wycombe.’ I’m sure this list will be forever growing. With a fairly new squad being built this season, it will be very interesting to see who in the future would be in contention for this coveted title.
Let me know who you think deserves a mention from the current 2025/26 squad in the comments.
Jack always gives his whole heart to the club, fighting on the pitch with unmatched levels of dedication.
Jack has surpassed his 200th well deserved appearance with the club in a game at Adams Park vs Barnsley in January 2025. It’s not hard to imagine the inspiration and enthusiasm Jack installs upon the dressing room.
A true natural born leader and an invaluable asset to Wycombe Wanderers.
Josh Scowen
A silent assassin who always gets the job done. Josh has had a vast career with Wycombe Wanderers spanning over a decade.
Starting off his career through the old Wycombe Wanderers youth system, Josh made his debut in 2011 in a 3-0 victory against Morecambe.
But, it wasn’t until Gareth Ainsworth took charge in 2012 that the Chairboys really began to relish the brilliance Josh brings to Wycombe Wanderers.
Josh did move on and had spells with Barnsley, QPR, and Sunderland, making over 200 appearances across those three clubs.
But it’s at Wycombe Wanderers where he’s truly made his mark, with almost 250 appearances under his belt.
He’s a player who rarely does anything wrong and is a first-choice pick for the starting XI. It will be interesting to see just how much Wycombe Wanderers miss him this season.
The Number versitile midfielder has been a fan favourite for the Chairboys since he joined from Shrewsbury back in 2023. Luke has been an instrumental part to Wycombes success over the last few years, being involved in Wycomber Wanderers first EFL Trophy Final and playing a big part of our playoff push in the 24/25 season. Luke is fast approaching his 100th appearance for the club hand has very rarely put a foot wrong in the quarters.
Luke also has a big impact off the pitch being involved within the community. He also notably invited the South Central Ambulance Service to hold a charity collection in 2023.
Luke has always been a model player who could take on the mantle of Mr. Wycombe with ease.
Garath Mccleary
Garath signed for Wycombe Wanderers in 2020 during the Chairboys famous first season in the Championship. A cult hero with Nottingham Forest and a club legend at Reading.
The signing of Mccleary was considered a coup for Wycombe Wanderers at the time. The veteran winger made an instant impact with the club, Making 32 appearances in his debut season and netting 4 times.
Whilst this season ended with eventual relegation to League One, Garath remained true to his new Wycombe Wanderers family and has stayed with the club ever since.
He regularly contributes to goals and assists and has embodied the character of the club within his own performances. Influencing and creating relationships for the players around him.
The Wycombe Wanderers supporters were pleased to see him sign a contract extension in 2024. Garath has shown a never say die attitude and profound leadership qualities to motivate and improve everyone around him. Exactly the qualities that a Mr. Wycombe should be. Garath is another player to join the 200 appearance club in February 2025.
